CarSanook! Road test: Featuring: Aveo LT SS 1,4 AT with built in Flex Fuel
Aveo_6_w145.jpg
The Small Tall and Affordable Chevrolet Aveo (ah-VAY-o). This Chevy is a compact BIG design compact CityCar running on gasoline (petrol) or E10 or E20 20:80 ethanol (alcohol)/ gasoline mix. The Aveo price range starts at 500,000 THB for the 1.4 MT (stick shift) base version to the competitive 684,000 for the top pf the range version 1.4 AT LUX

The demo unit provided by GM ASEAN/Thailand PR division was the new Chevrolet Aveo E20 LT SS. “SS” meaning “Sport Style” or perhaps “Sport Sedan” with a sparkling Sterling Silver paint job.

This is a E20 Flex Fuel vehicle or fully compatible for all types of fuel gasohol E10 or E20 and the standard 91 and 95 octane fuels.

The design is contemporary European, Italian by master automobile stylist Signore Giorgietto Giugiaro founder of the legendary ITALDESIGN GUIGIARO design and engineering company. And the statement is simple: Small but still big! The lines are generous and flowing. In the front, the shining chrome grille with the iconic, golden yellow Chevrolet bow tie in the center. Flared wheel arches, of course and 16" alloy wheels. In the rear the huge, tall triangular tail lights stand out like two small crimson pyramids. Mercedes Benz also has similar triangular shaped tail light cluster.

Step inside. The interior dark with a sporty motif and dashes of red on the rally inspired seats. The front seat come with lateral support. To keep you firmly in your seat during tight cornering. The four spoke steering wheel is height adjustable and finding a suitable driving position on is easy.

The air conditioning is top quality and one thing we noticed was the noise insulation; it almost cuts out the all the urban, subourban noice as soon as close the doors are closed.

The engine is a preppy multipoint fuel injection 1.4 liter 1,399cc 16 valve 4 cylinder in-line engine, pumping out 94 horse power and 130Nm of torque at 3,400 rpm.

Our demo came with the A/T Automatic Transmission a smooth 4 speed "auto" shifter. Providing highway speeds of 110-120 kph. Amazing power from such a a small engine. Euro-ride suspension with Mcpherson strut front suspension provideed effective roadholding and comfortable cornering. Did you know that the MacPherson suspension system was developed by Earle S. MacPherson of General Motors in 1947 and is the most widely used front suspension system, especially in cars of European origin.

CarSanook! Verdict

Well, this Chevy Aveo SS “Sport Style” model has it all: Italian styling, well appointed interiors with ample space also in the back seats. The Aveo is easy to drive, which we learned while cruising on the Petchakasem highway and the Hua Hin by pass to Pranburi beach. Effortless ride. Flying like the wind.

And the best - the retail price: 664,000 THB. Inclusive the Flex Fuel concept. A car for all seasons and all types of fuel available in the Kingdom, except Diesel!

And a total of 95 yellow bowtie GM showrooms/ service stations in Bangkok and the provinces.
