The new NISSAN TEANA 250 XV V6

The fully redesigned new Nissan Teana flagship luxury cruiser, the second generation Teana, Nissan's long-awaited challenger in the executive Japanese saloon class.

The established competition in this four door 1,0 to 1,6 million THB segment; Honda Accord and Toyata Camry and the Korean Hyundai better watch out. The new Nissan Teana has arrived.

"Teana" is a native North American word which means "dawn". That's, fortuitous because it is indeed a new dawn for Nissan in Thailand with the second generation new Teana hitting the hot tarmac of the Thai kingdom.

In terms of styling, this second generation Teana still reminds me of those Teutonic luxury, ueber limousines with acres of sheet metal making a strong statement.

The most striking design elements are the angular, sharp looking projector headlights.

The well proportioned, protruding, crimson red tail light cluster is strking with its cool embedded LED illumination. These days the brake lights are getting bigger and more distinctive. In the old days they were the size of dinky bicycle reflectors.

The overriding impression conveyed by the new Teana is one of dignified elegance, especially in a livery of black or dark blue metallic paint. This would make a very appropriate diplomatic or ministerial vehicle.

Interior is tip-top fit and finish a blend of opulent beige premium leather upholstery and quality wood trimming. There is plenty of space, with the long wheel base design allowing rear passengers ample head, hip and leg room. And separate air vent for the comfort of the rear seat passengers.

Up front, the dashboard console and instrumentation are of stylish contemporary design and high-quality workmanship including the elegant, multi-function four-spoke steering whel. For maximum comfort, power, memory seats for the driver and the front passenger, while conveniences include a double-deck storage compartment cum armrest separating the front seats. In car entertainment: front loading six-disc CD player and MP3.

In & out side
The sunroof, or as we prefer to call it here balmy tropics "moonroof" a feature highly enjoyable during the cool season while driving outside Bangkok for example in the verdant vineyard's of Khao Yai.

The new Teana is powered by a quiet and smooth 24-valve V6 motor which pumps out 182 horsepower and plenty of torque. The VQ25DE is mated to a seamless, absolutely no jerks XTRONIC CVT automatic gearbox.

Safety Features
The usual alphabet soup: ABS, EDB (electronic brake force distribution)and BA (brake assist). Plus Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) including Traction Control System (TCS). Which all add up to more braking power when slamming on the stoppers in an emergency. This is especially useful in Thailand, given the partiality of motorcycle taxis ('moto-saii-lap-chang') to come dashing out from nowhere right in front of oncoming traffic. Passive safety comes in the shape of dual SRS airbags in front and active head restraints for whiplash protection, plus a UHSS ( Ultra High Strengh Steel) zone body concept safety structure.

Teana on the tarmac
We took the Teana through its paces on a Bangkok urban and suburban test drive including a visit to Alpine Golf and country club. During we test run we duly tried the rpm's, expressway high-speed testing, kick-down manoeuvres and braking.
The the ultra smooth XTRONIC CTV automatic shifter worked smoothly, with no shift-shock forward movement at all.

Nissan have always built fine petrol engines (and diesel engines for their sturdy pick-ups), and the Teana's V6 is no exception, quiet, full of torque and powerful.
With a fuel consumption of circa 12,5 kpl.

All told, the new Teana 250 XV-V6 performed brilliantly and had passed its test with flying colors.

No doubt it would look equally good battling the Bangkok traffic on route to an important business meeting on Silom or Sathorn Road. The new Nissan Teana XV-V6 sure reflects both status and discriminating taste. Whether you're an executive mulling over your action plans and agenda in the back seat, or someone who enjoys hands-on driving on the open road, this just might be the new car you need.

The price tag of 'tester" the Teana, 250 XV V6 with Sunroof reads: THB 1,549,000

And the Nissan tag-line goes: SHIFT_the way you move.
