IN NORTH AMERICA Subaru's biggest market, the Forester is the best selling Subaru after the Outback model. Subaru Forester is a crossover; something between a station wagon and a SUV or more precise a premium crossover. Not a luxury crossover, but a step above the rest, the Korean, Japanese US run-of-the-mill compact SUV/Crossover's.

The Forester at the first encounter looks maybe a tad plain but functional. Take a closer peek. You'll see the sporty, strong look emphasized by those protruding wheel arches housing the 16' alloys with enough ground clearance for real off-roading. At the rear, the dual exhaust pipes underline the sporty Subaru heritage. The nose is large and robust looking with low heavy duty fog lights adding to the macho image. This is not a soft crossover.

Let's jump in and fire up the engine. The shifter in D(rive). I can immediately I feel the effortless power of the 2 liter horizontally-opposed boxer engine pumping out 185 horse power, mated to a flawless 4-speed automatic gearbox. The straight line sprint 0-100 kph takes 12.7 seconds. How thirsty is the Forester? About 10.3 kilometer per liter.

The view from the drivers seat is commanding and inviting to tackle long highway stretches or non-paved, wet, slippery country slopes. A vehicle for all seasons.

On the road you'll notice this vehicle feels closer to a European sports sedan than a mid size SUV. And the sure-footed control and car-like handling makes it - Very Subaru!

And the secret ? It's simply, the Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive concept. Providing an impressive sense of balance and handling enhanced by and the low center of gravity. I step on it again and feel the traction, the grip. No over or under steer which is so common with the front and rear wheel drives – but not an AWD!

The Subaru Forester's cabin is spacious, comfortable and quiet. The fit and finish is maybe not posh – but functional. Quality materials and everything in it's place. Smart dark blue fabric upholstery. Also plenty of equipment; a 7-speaker audio system; iPad2 and MP3 connections, cup holders galore plus a multi function steering wheel (audio & cruise control) with tilt-telescope column. Safety package nothing missing: SRS front, front side and curtain airbags. ABS and EBD.

The Subaru Forester is a AWD capable crossover a with a fireproof championship rally brand DNA. Not a luxury marque but a solid premium vehicle and a seriously fun vehicle to drive on the tarmac as well as off-road. Powered by a boxer engine, just like the German überwagen Porsche. Price a kool 6,6 million THB

The Subaru Forester sells at: 1,689,000 million THB

P.S. Did I mention the Subaru showroom. Absolutely high-tech, star wars, space-age P-49 design. This is still the benchmark showroom cum service-center in Bangkok's premium car marketplace.
