BANGKOK - BMW Group Thailand has the optimistic outlook that its sales volume 2010 year will grow by about 60% from 2009 thanks to the new models introduced to the Thai luxury car market.

President Michael Kordys said BMW expected the automotive industry in the second half of this year to remain positive, so sales volume in the rest of the year should not be lower than that of the first half.

“If the market is growing well, why can't we achieve 60% growth this year,” he said.

BMW plans to launch the new 5 Series; sixth generation over the next three months in the Thai market. The company also expects the new series to help boost sales in the rest of this year.

BMW's sales volume in the first half of this year grew 52% year on year, more than doubling the 22% growth seen in the premium automotive segment as a whole. That increase was for both the BMW and MINI brands. For BMW vehicles alone, the growth was 56 percent, and the MINI brand experienced growth of 27%.

At a recent preview of the first batch of the CBU (completely built up) imported luxury Bavarian BMW 5 series sports sedan Mr Sethipong Anutarasoti, director of corporate communications for BMW Group Thailand, said: "In the past six months we have launched many new products and many different versions of our products. Many of our vehicles are now E20compatible fuel, even the roadster Z4sDrive23i. We have also expanded our network with the addition of one new dealership in Bang Na area."

The company plans to have 19 showrooms/dealerships by the end of the year, from 17 currently. Opening of two new dealerships was delayed by the political turmoil this year.

Mr Sethipong was speaking at the exclusive preview of the all-new BMW 5 Series for the press and invited guests at the MahaNakhon Pavilion, prior to its official launch at BMW Xpo 2010 later the third quarter of 2010.

During this event, BMW Thailand showed two top-performance models of the all-new BMW 5 Series: BMW 535i (retail price of THB 7,599,000) and BMW 530d (unit price THB 7,299,000), both of which are imported version also called CBU (Completely built up version) versions.

The tag line for the new "Beemer" 5 series is: AN EXPLORATION OF BEAUTY plus strong corporate slogan "BMW Sheer Driving Pleasure".
