The annual Bangkok International Motor Show at BITEC attracted 1,9 million visitors.

The 31st Bangkok Motor Show followed the environmental trend from last year: “Ecology Driving Save the Earth”

       About 50 billion THB changed hands during the motoring extravaganza which ended 6th of April.


      The eco-cars also known as sub compacts or the B-segment were the show stoppers with the recently launched petite Nissan March and the “zoom-zoom” New Mazda2 sport sedan following its sibling the hatchback the new Mazda2 rolled out earlier this year. MAZDA received 3,234 bookings.

      “The Nissan March which is produced under the Thai Government’s eco car project is the highlight this year” said Dr Prachin Eamlumnow, the Chairman of the organizing committee. NISSAN reached 3,675 orders. Thanks to the hot new Nissan March.

       Again, Toyota sold the most vehicles a staggering 6,943 units. ISUZU pickup trucks sold well as always 3,500 bookings.
The Japanese HONDA also among the top five with 2,866 units ordered.
      The diminutive Nissan March with a 79 horse power 1.2 liter petrol engine boasts 20 kilometer per liter. Price range: 375,000 THB - 537,000 THB. A new passenger car has never been more affordable in the Kingdom. The hot selling Mazda2 and Mazda 2Sedan retails from 535,000 to 675,000 THB.

      Suzuki Swift offers the new Suzuki Swift…Flip Design at 599,000 THB. Customers who purchase the New Suzuki Swift at the Bangkok International Motor Show 2010 will receive special promotional premiums including: highly desirable interest rates as low as 1.95%, one year free insurance, and three years free 24 hours roadside assistance.

From Europe

      The stylish BMW Thailand pavilion displays the BMW Z4 sDrive23i E20, the first E20 gasohol-compatible sports roadster in Thailand. BMW Z4 sDrive23i retails at 4,399,000, THB
      Moreover, the BMW X1 "Sport Activity Vehicle" - the recently awarded ‘Off-Road of the Year’ in the Crossover class - makes its national premiere in this event. The 177 hp two liter turbo diesel powered by BMW’s unique Efficient Dynamics technology “the torque of the town” – higher fuel efficiency, lower emission and, yet, greater performance, but they also support the alternative energy on both diesel and petrol range.

For the motorbike aficionados, BMW will launches four new motorcycles: BMW S 1000 RR - the first Super bike from BMW, BMW F 800 R, BMW R 1200 GS / Adventure, and BMW R 1200 RT.

      The adjacent MINI stand displays the special 50th Anniversary models: MINI 50 Mayfair and MINI 50 Camden. Both are the special 50th anniversary models of MINI. Integrated in their designs are the MINI unique characters - classic and modern. The MINI 50 Mayfair takes the classic design cue reflecting the great history of MINI, while the MINI 50 Camden is a futuristic interpretation of MINI character

Mercedes Benz

      The leader in the premium segment, the Stuttgart three pointed star premiers with its new sleek and dynamic E-Class sedan propelled by a 1.8 liter petrol turbo charged 184 horse power motor. Sticker price from: 3,7 million – 4,2 million THB. Tag line the new E-Class “Engineered around you”.

      Also at the Mercedes Benz stand was the show stopper SLS AMG roadster painted in metallic Le Mans red. The iconic 1955 “gullwing” recreated. The car which was voted “Sports Car of the Century”. The advertising copy reads: “A cockpit. An engine. Two wings. Is it still a car?” The heart of the SLS is a V8 6.3 liter Mercedes Benz AMG producing 571 horse power. Top speed 317 km/h. Price: 25 million THB. The luxurious Mercedes Benz sold an amazing 1,186 units.

      Volvo Car (Thailand) spices up the show with its new Volvo C30. Volvo again goes from “boxy to foxy”. With a all new color combination: Espresso blond. The result is the face lifted compact C30 hatchback now with a smaller engine and quicker shifting transmission. Two engine options, are available a 1.8F Flexifuel with 5-speed manual transmission, capable of running on 100% petrol, or any blend of petrol and renewable bio ethanol up 85%. It offers 125 Hp at 6,000 rpm and 165 Nm at 4,000 rpm.
      2.0L petrol engine that supports both 95-octane petrol and E10, delivering maximum 145 Hp at 6,000 rpm and maximum torque of 185 Nm at 4,500 rpm

      The C30 also comes with Volvo's world first BLIS (Blind Spot Information System), which helps the driver to identify another vehicle in the blind spot at the rear/sides of the car. With an all new color combination: Espresso blond.

      Among the many special offers from the car companies such as; trade-ins promotion, cash bonuses, special interest rates, zero interest rates and first class interest. Volvo stands out special Motor Show packages: Love Your Life, a four-day, three-night package tour at the ueber luxurious Kirimaya Khao Yai Resort, or the Love Your Car one-year car-wash/polish package.

      “VW Das Auto” brings out the new Caravelle BiTDi. The German Caravelle luxury people carrier is the all time favorite people carrier of most Thai politicians. The engine a VW 2 liter twin turbo diesel delivering 180 horse power. Price: 3,2 million THB

From Korea
      The new Hyundai Tuscon SUV. Tag line: “The Sexy SUV”. A futuristic, innovate and stylish 2WD or 4WD alternative to Honda C-RV. Price: 1,792 – 1,895 million THB. Hyundai impressed with with 520 sold units.

Super Cars

      At 43 million THB Toyota’s luxury division Lexus LFA is more expensive than the “gullwing” Mercedes Benz SLS AMG. Lexus’ flagship super car is loaded with a 4.8 liter V10 560 horse power engine. Smaller than the ‘Benz’ SLS AMG yet more expensive and faster accelerating. Wroooom!

      Lotus cars importer Niche Car unveiled the Exgige Scura the special edition of a carbon fibre super car the Exige Scura at Bangkok International Motor Show.

      Translated as 'dark' from Italian, the name 'Scura' reflects the stealth character of this already fierce looking Lotus and its stunning soft-feel matt black paint finish. Limited to just 35 cars globally, this Exige evokes a desire to 'indulge your dark side'.

      Contrasting high gloss 'Phantom Black' triple stripes run the length of the car and a carbon fiber front splitter, oil cooler inlet vanes, side air scoops and rear spoiler enhance the stunning distinction between the different textures and the tactile quality of the velvety touch to the matt black paint finish.

      Equipped with the most powerful engine in the Exige range and generating 260 horse power,the Exige Scura achieves a top speed of around 245 km/h and reaches 0-100 kmh in just 4.1 seconds. Concept cars

      Also known as prototypes. Often “all show no go” since many of these vehicles don’t make it into production.

      Honda unveiled its Honda Eco Car, the futuristic Honda New Small Concept which will be developed into the Honda Eco Car scheduled for launch in 2011.

      From Toyota a retro looking boxy car named Toyota RiN. With a massive greenhouse, seats that keep your spine in its proper position, an oxygen-level conditioner and humidifier, plus a meter that gauges your mood through the steering wheel and then displays a color based on your psychological state.

      From Lexus the banana yellow LF-Ch offers dramatic style, premium features, low emissions, impressive fuel economy and the performance expected of a sporty yet versatile five-door package.
“Lexus has been leading the luxury hybrid market ever since we came out with the RX 400h in 2005,” says Mark Templin, Lexus division group vice president and general manager. “To continue raising the hybrid benchmark, we need to continue exploring hybrid technology in different segments. The LF-Ch concept gives us the opportunity to gauge consumer reaction and help us determine whether or not this would be viable for production.”
