Monday 28 July. The new Camry Hybrid Heralded at a glitzy Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok launch followed by a VIP party in the evening.

This, maybe the most important automotive launch of he lackluster year 2009 took place today in central Bangkok when the first new Camry Hybrid's outside Japan in the Asia zone were presented to Thai and international media on the stage of the hotel grand ball room.

The midsize Toyota Camry Hybrid boasts intelligent, cutting edge technologies that are environmentally friendly while offering excellent fuel economy and performance.
Other highlights include noise-free operation in electric mode and a particularly high level of comfort.

The Toyota Camry model was first launched in Japan year 1982. The name “Camry” originates from the Japanese word for “Crown” “Kanmuri”. Over the years the midsize Toyota Camry became the leader in the midsize sedan segment especially popular in the US where it has been the best selling for 11 years up to present.

In Thailand, Camry was first introduced in 1993 as a CBU import from Australia. Toyota Camry has accumulated sales over 100,000 units to date.

Today the ubiquitous “Camm-ryy” in Thai has reached its sixth generation and owns more than 50 percent market share in the in the midsize highly competitive passenger car market in Thailand. Thailand is the third country after Japan and the United States to assemble Toyota hybrid vehicles. The Camry Hybrid vehicles are assembled at the Gateway plant in Chachoengsao province outside Bangkok.

Kyoichi Tanada, President of Toyota Motor Thailand (TMT) Co., Ltd. said, “Toyota has a strong stance in developing and producing environmentally friendly products under the commitment to preserve the environment.”

The Camry Hybrid, the first volume production hybrid vehicle in Thailand, as well as the first hybrid technology in Asia outside Japan, is now ready for Thai customers. And our sales target from August through December will be approximately 4,000 units” Mr Tanada added.

The Camry Hybrid is powered by a 2.4-litre petrol engine and electric motors that reduce average fuel consumption up to 30 percent. This vehicle also enjoys tax privileges under the Japan-Thailand Economic Partnership Agreement (J-TEPA), as well as duty benefits of the Excise Department for environmentally friendly vehicles.

The model line-up consist of the top of the line 2.4 liter model equipped with GPS Navigator sticker price: 1.779 million and the entry models at 1.659 million and 1.599 million THB respectively.

And he added that the car comes with 3-year or 100,000 km warranty and a additional 5 year warranty for the battery.

Mr Yukihiro Okane, Chief Engineer of TMC, elaborated “The development of Camry Hybrid was guided by the four principles established by Toyota:
To contribute to the environment by reducing exhaust gas, to achieve maximum fuel efficiency as a hybrid vehicle using a highly efficient electric motor, to achieve smooth acceleration using power generated by the engine and electric motor to ensure exceptional quietness as a hybrid vehicle that enables driving at low speeds even with the engine stopped. The new Camry Hybrid has been fine tuned to the tropical conditions in Thailand, including driving under hot sun with high outside temperatures, including driving in congested traffic conditions with high air conditioning loads".

Moreover, "Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) seamlessly integrates steering, braking, vehicle stability and traction control to enhance the vehicle performance to drive, turn and stop. We also have improved cabin comfort and quietness to create a more relaxing cabin atmosphere the new Camry Hybrid",
